Southern Oaks Golf Club in Burleson (south of Fort Worth) is an outstanding 18-hole championship design featuring ample fairways and challenging greens that make for an interesting and enjoyable round for all levels of players. There is a mix of tightly tree lined and open golf holes that are usually inundated with deep, penal sand bunkers.
In total nearly 60 soft sand bunkers adorn the layout, providing hazards that golfers will want to avoid. Water comes into play on just two holes on the front (on the perimeter of the par four 4th and off the tee on the par three 6th) and three on the back side(carries off the tee or on the approach on the three finishing holes).
The property is set in secluded, lush golf environment, with rolling playing surfaces highlighted by raised, undulating green complexes that are well protected by sand traps, and often slope off the back and sides. Those missing on approaches will be challenged to recover as the up and down situations can be difficult.
The slope ratings indicate the degree of difficulty, as the back tees play to a 135 slope while ladies hitting from the white tee boxes will confront s slope of 142. The distances and yardages for each tee box are: Green - 7311 yards/135 slope; Black - 6961 yards/131 slope; white - 6248 yards/129 slope for men and 140 for women; Red - 5325 yards with a slope of 117 for men and 127 for ladies hitting from the forward tees.
On course yardage markers are posted on the cart paths and fairways at 100, 150 and 200 yards, sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green, and 150 yard stakes are centered in the fairways of all par fours and fives. Pin placement charts on the scorecards indicate the day's hole locations.
Practice facilities include a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker plus putting green. The clubhouse features a pro shop, changing areas with showers (no lockers), and restaurant/lounge open for breakfast and lunch items.
