Texas Golf Course Review

River Crossing Golf Club

River Crossing Club, home of San Antonio's Golf Digest Schools, is a traditional Hill Country design that features panoramic views and scenic elevation changes. Located in Spring Branch, just 15 minutes from San Antonio and 40 minutes from Austin, this property has some extremely nice amenities - beginning with super friendly service!

River Crossing Golf Club

The clubhouse is gorgeous yet unpretentious, and features a nice pro shop, restaurant/lounge serving breakfast, lunch and dinner plus clean changing areas with showers for men and women. Practice facilities include a spacious grass range (with comp balls for green fee paying guests), short game area with sand bunker and putting green. Laser Links are available at the practice range for rent or sale. The carts are equipped with ball and club washers and ice chests with bottled water.

On course sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green, and 150 yard stakes are visible on all par fours and fives. Pin Placement sheets mounted on the back of the carts provides info on the day's hole locations. There are 5 sets of tee areas that play to distances and slopes measuring 6828 yards/133 slope, m6505 yards/130 slope, 6096 yards/129 slope, 5588 yards/119 slope for men and 124 for women, and 5059 yards with a slope of 122 for women hitting from the forward sets.

The fairways generally provide ample landing zones, but some holes are also quite tight and many feature gentle doglegs. The initial holes on the front and back have an open, links feel, but the remainder of the holes are tree lined. The terrain is fairly flat, though the middle holes on each side have a gentle rolling nature. The tee boxes are nicely sculpted, and the course on early spring visit was in outstanding condition from tee to green!

The par three second and par three fifteenth - both with water carries, are quite memorable, as is the finishing hole - a downhill par four with a well bunkered green. The green complexes vary from quite level to slightly raised with slopes on either side creating challenging up and down situations. Most of the putting surfaces are quite large and are mildly undulating with slopes running from back to front.

River Crossing Golf Club

This is an extremely pretty golf course - with the friendly service and fine amenities, it is one that we highly recommend! Located off Hwy 281 about 1/2 hour north of San Antonio pretty much in the middle of nowhere - it is worth the drive!
