Take away the residential, industrial and business complexes from the surrounding environment, and the Quarry is a golf destination! Even with these nearby views - this is one beautiful golf course! Located just minutes from the airport or from downtown San Antonio, the Quarry is a golf experience that visitors to the area will not want to mix. As the photos in this review indicate - this is a MUST PLAY!
The facilities here are top notch, with a spacious grass range, huge putting green and a wonderful short game area that is perfect for working on chips, pitches and the sand game. There is a pro shop, restaurant & lounge, and a beautifully appointed banquet/outing room. The views from the clubhouse afford a glimpse of the back nine, with the green of the playing surfaces contrasting with crystal clear waters and rock walls.
The initial hole starts innocently enough then drops off to the right to a beautiful green complex with a pond to the right - great opening hole. It gets better from there, with an outstanding group of par threes, that have gorgeous water features or play from elevated tees. The 3rd plays over Jay's Creek, while number 8 features a significant drop to a narrow green, with a pond resting just in front - all carry here. The 12th plays over an edge of a quarry lake, and number 16 features a pond to the left, and has a beautiful rock wall backdrop.
Four sets of tees play to distances and slopes that measure 6740 yards/128 slope, 6128 yards/120 slope, 5576 yards/111 slope and 4897 yards with a slope of 115 for women hitting from the forward tees. On course sprinkler heads and 100/150/200 yard markers are positioned on the fairways and measured to the center of the green, and pin placements sheets are provided. Golfers will find ample landing zones off the tee, but will be challenged on approaches as the often raised green complexes are well bunkered and slope off on the sides and back.
The putting surfaces themselves are large in size and mild in undulation. Along the way, players will encounter sculpted tee boxes, manicured fairways and high cut rough. Man made mounding often separates the fairways and provides some challenge greenside. Thirty seven strategically placed bunkers are situated beside the greens or near the landing zones, and surprisingly clear water hazards come into play on 7 holes.
This is an awesome track and a highly recommended golf experience. For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
