HIGH MEADOW RANCH GOLF CLUB (281-356-7700)
Texas Golf Course Review
High Meadow Ranch Golf Club in Magnolia about 40 miles outside of Houston, is one of the longest courses in the area and has been awarded 4 stars (out of five) by Golf Digest Places to Play. This Tim Nugent/David Ogrin design measures 7370 yards from the tips, with a top course rating of 75.7. The secluded, pastoral layout will challenge the low handicapper, but is very player friendly from the front sets of tees - inviting players of all skill levels with an opportunity to experience an enjoyable round.
Uniquely, this property features 3 six hole loops - the Forest, Pine Barren and Signature loops. The Forest Loop begins from an elevated tee and plays downhill to a challenging green complex with a creek crossing diagonally in front. The next several holes are tree lined, but have significant landing zones. The Pine Barren Loop presents wide fairways along a pretty level terrain, and features the only pond/lake on the course on the long par four 8th. The Signature Loop tightens up with pines and hardwoods framing the fairways, and finishes with a spectacular closing hole - which demands carries over a creek off the tee and right in front of the green.
There are two particularly tough par fours - the 8th which plays to 388 yards from the tips (Number one handicap) and the 441 yard 18th. On the finishing hole, golfers must decide to sky one over the creek (there is significant room behind the green) or lay-up and play for and up and down par. This is a gorgeous golf hole which leaves a memorable impression, and can make or break a round.
Fifty seven soft sand bunkers are situated near the landing zones off the tee or greenside, and water - mostly in the form of crossing creeks on the Forest Loop, comes into play on 5 holes. Five sets of tees play to distances and slopes measuring 7370 yards/133 slope, 839 yards/130 slope, 6358 yards/124 slope, 5614 yards/117 slope for men and 136 fro women, and 4965 yards with a slope of 121 for ladies hitting from the forward tees.
On course yardage markers are posted on the cart paths at 100, 150 and 200yards, and sprinkler heads on all par fours and fives are measured the center of the green. Color coded flags indicate front, middle and back hole locations on the medium sized, mild undulating putting surfaces. This is a beautiful golf course that meanders through a secluded, upscale residential community. It is challenging yet not overly tough - very fair and highly recommended.
High Meadow Ranch is a wonderful residential community with golf and recreation as a primary focus. Information is available on www.highmeadowranch.com For more info on the golf course, visit our page for the property with direct link to their website by clicking here.
