BEAR CREEK GOLF CLUB West Course (972-456-3200)
Texas Golf Course Review
General information
Bear Creek Golf Club, located near the DFW Airport, is a spectacular 36-hole championship facility that has been recognized as the best place to hold an outing by Avid Golfer Magazine. Built on 355 acres of rolling hills, this property is an ideal choice for skilled players, mid-handicappers or novices, with slope ratings that measure between 123 and 138. Designed by Ted Robinson, the layouts are meticulously groomed and wonderfully landscaped.
The topography features strands of mature oak trees, a meandering creek, cascading waterfalls and idyllic lakes and ponds, along a very rolling terrain, with no residential properties in view. Both courses play to a par 72 and a distinctively different. On property is a targeted range with grass and mat hitting stations plus putting and chipping greens. Lessons from a staff of PGA certified instructors are available.
The clubhouse includes a well stocked pro shop plus restaurant/lounge, with outing capacities of up to 400 people. The nearby Bear Creek pavilions can host events, pre or post tournament functions and private or corporate parties for groups of up to 600 guests! The two open-air pavilions are surrounded by elaborate gardens, with a softball field and 3 sand volleyball courses nearby.
On course yardages are posted on the fairways and cart paths at 100, 150 and 200 yards, and 150 yard stakes also serve as directional devices on all par fours and fives (250 stake also on par fives). Color coded flags indicate front, middle and back hole locations on the medium sized, mildly sloping putting surfaces. The photos in this review are of the West Course.
West Course
The West Course at Bear Creek features three sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 6690 yards/137 slope, 6294 yards/134 slope and 68.1 yards with a slope of 123 from the forward tees. The terrain features rolling tree lined fairways with noticeable elevation changes from tee to green - especially on the front nine. The back side plays through a forested terrain with mature oaks and picturesque water features squeezing the landing zones. Beautiful lilac trees blooming in the spring and early summer months add to the aesthetic beauty. There are 55 soft sand bunkers situated near the landing zones or greenside, and water hazards come into play on nine holes.
Bear Creek presents a good variety in hole design in a beautiful and secluded golf environment, with excellent facilities to match. We highly recommend a round here! For more information, visit our age for the West Course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
