The World Houston Golf Course is part of the HH Ranch - recognized as Houston's best recreation facility. The golf facilities include an 18-hole championship course with practice green for putting and chipping (no range). There is a small pro shop and snack area with hot & cold sandwiches, beer and other beverages. On the HH Ranch property is a humungous banquet facility that can accommodate up to 3000 guests! The course and property is located in the HH ranch property, just 20 miles north of downtown Houston with easy access from all directions.
The course has 3 sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 6642 yards/119 slope for men and 144 for women, 6075 yards/113 slope for men and 132 for women, and 5204 with a slope rating of 108 for men and 125 for ladies hitting from the forward sets. As these slopes indicate, this facility provides an opportunity for beginners, families and resort golfers to enjoy a relaxing round.
Water is a prominent feature, with hazards in the form of ponds and crossing creeks in play on 13 of the holes. There also are 36 sand bunkers situated greenside or along the fairly level fairways. The bunkers and sand traps are nicely sculpted, and the fairways were in very good condition on our late April visit. The course is tree lined but not densely, and there are usually ample landing zones off the tee.
The putting surfaces are small and round, creating the need for accurate approaches. Those that miss however, usually have significant room for simple up and down opportunities. 150 yard stakes are positioned in the center of the fairways of all par fours and fives, and 100, 150 and 200 yard markers are also posted on the cart paths and fairways. Color coded flags indicate front, middle and back hole locations.
