STAR RANCH (GOLF CLUB AT) (512-252-4653)
Texas Golf Course Review
The Golf Club at Star Ranch is an 18-hole links inspired championship design that features manicured conditioning from tee to green and is and all-inclusive golf course that provides an enjoyable experience for both novice and scratch golfers.
The 15,000 square foot western style clubhouse features a well appointed pro shop, The Traditions Cafe, locker rooms, Tournament Pavilion, a ballroom for weddings and private parties and a fully equipped board room. Practice facilities provide a tiered grass targeted range and short game area with chipping greens, putting green and sand bunker.
The golf course features 4 sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 7017 yards/130 slope, 6341 yards/117 slope, 5678 yards/110 slope and 4990 yards with a slope of 111 for women hitting from the forward sets. As these ratings indicate, this is a challenging experience from the tips, but very player friendly form the remaining tees. On course yardages are marked on the cart paths at 100, 150 and 200 yards, sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green and 150 yard stakes are positioned in the center of the fairways. Pin placement sheets are mounted on each golf cart.
The terrain at Star Ranch is very rolling, with swales and mounding prevalent on many fairways. There are a few tree lined holes, but most are open - meaning the wind can really come into play here. 66 sand bunkers dot the layout and many of the fairway traps are quite large and intricately shaped - making it appear as if there were more. Water comes into play on 7 holes. Number 6 and 7 on the front share a lake - with the hazard on the for both hole running along the left side. The 8th features a somewhat wooded topography, as does the sequence of holes 13-15 on the back.
The course features large, undulating greens that sometimes have ridges and tiers. Mounding and swales can make getting up and down a task, but generally speaking - hit it close and up and downs are very possible. You can't go wrong with a day spent at Star Ranch. There is very little protection from the wind - so be prepared!
We recommend a day at Star Ranch as one well spent! For more info, visit our page for the property, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
