SKY CREEK RANCH GOLF CLUB (817-498-1414)
Texas Golf Course Review
Sky Creek Ranch in Keller just north of Fort Worth, is an immaculately conditioned 18-hole championship course that has been deservedly awarded 4 -1/2 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play. This par 72 layout features large, true rolling bent grass greens which though sometimes tiered or ridged, reward golfers who reach in regulation. The 419 bermuda fairways and tee areas also provide excellent playing surfaces, and are over-seeded with rye during winter months to keep the course green all year round.
There is a nice mix of open and tree lined fairways, with the front side featuring some tight driving holes, while the back side provides plenty of room off the tee. The initial hole plays from an elevated tee box, but the topography throughout the remainder of this layout is gently rolling with consistently level lies .The green complexes are raised to varying degrees, with slopes on the sides and backs creating some challenging up and down situations for those who miss on the approach.
Sky Creek Ranch is designed to challenge the avid golfer, yet is player friendly for novices and mid-handicappers. Women will have their hands full as the front tees play to 5390 yards with a slope of 132. There are 3 other sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring 6953 yards/136 slope, 6367 yards/127 slope, 5940 yards with a slope of 120 from the white tee boxes.
On course yardage markers are posted on the cart paths and fairways at 100, 150 and 200 yards, with 150 yard stakes also situated in the middle of the fairways on all par fours and fives. A nice touch - the tee boxes post yardage information in relation to the creek crossings or hazards that await off the tee. Pin placement sheets are mounted on all golf carts, and ice chests are also provided.
The clubhouse has a grill and snack area with patio, pro shop plus banquet/outing facilities. Golfers can enjoy the expansive practice facilities which include a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker, and putting/chipping green.
Bunkering on this course is understated but strategic, and many of the sand traps are high-lipped and penal in nature. Water comes into play on 13 holes in some shape or form. The course is set in a beautiful environment, and the upscale residential properties located along the perimeters of many holes are unobtrusive. This is a highly recommended golf experience - a "must play" for visitors to the area. For more info, visit our page for the property, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
