SIENNA PLANTATION GOLF CLUB (281-778-4653)
Texas Golf Course Review
Sienna Plantation is an 18-hole semi-private championship facility designed by Arthur Hills in collaboration with Mike Dasher This layout was built on a fairly level terrain, with significant contours added to create some dramatic elevation changes along a rolling topography. The wooded setting includes mature oaks and cedar elms, framing fairways that also feature lakes and winding creeks, to create risk-reward situations for which Mr. Hills is known.
The property also features the Sienna Grille - voted the best restaurant in Fort Bend County, with lunch menus served daily and with dinner Monday through Saturday evenings. There are two 42-inch flat screen televisions in the comfortable lounge - ideal for catching up on the latest sporting events. A full service pro shop is one of the area's best, and is stocked with name brand clubs, apparel and accessories, with kid's equipment also available. There also are locker rooms with showers.
Practice facilities are also comprehensive, with a large grass tee area, sand bunkers greenside and along the range, and a spacious green for putting and chipping. Lessons of all types are offered, along with a well respected Junior Program including a golf school and clinics. As a property offering fine facilities Sienna Plantation provides one of the regions best golf values.
There are four sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 7151 yards/129 slope, 6624 yards/127 slope, 6024 yards/121 slope for men and 146 for women, and 5224 yards with a slope of 124 for ladies hitting from the forward tees. Color coded flags on the medium sized, undulating greens indicate the day's hole locations, and sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green on all par fours and fives. There also are 150 yard stakes plus100 and 200 yard markers on the fairways.
Bunkering is understated with less than 30 in total, water hazards come into play on seven holes. Golfers will find adequate challenge however in the topography itself, which is very rolling with mounds and moguls framing the landing zones off the tee. There are numerous elevated tees and greens - with the green complex on the par four 4th the extreme example. Miss this green and your uphill pitch or chip will be very difficult.
There also are plentiful natural areas - usually situated greenside. Swales and collection areas border most green complexes along with one or two sand traps - creating some tricky up and down opportunities. Pampas and other vegetation provide beautiful landscaping as this course winds its way through a gorgeous residential community. This property provides some truly unique terrain for the Houston area, and obviously takes great pride in featuring outstanding playing conditions - Highly recommended!
