RIVERSIDE GOLF CLUB (817-640-7800)
Texas Golf Course Review
Riverside Golf Club in Grand Prairie just east of Fort Worth is a Robert Packard 18-hole, par 72 championship links style design that plays to nearly 7000 yards. Featuring Champion Bermuda greens and Bermuda fairways, this layout plays along a fairly level terrain, with several ponds coming into play, and with the Trinity River situated as a lateral water hazard on several holes.
There are four sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 6957 yards/132 slope, 6389 yards/126 slope, 5783 yards/119 slope and 5247 yards with a slope of 113 from the forward tees. As these ratings indicate, avid golfers will enjoy a true challenge from the tips (74.4 course rating) while mid-handicappers and novice will find a reasonable test from the three alternate tee areas.
In total about 30 soft sand bunkers line the landing zones or are situated greenside, and water hazards come into play on 11 holes. The course has been recognized as one of the top 20 courses in the Metroplex. Additional honors bestowed by Avid Golfer Magazine include # 4 in value price category and # 2 in CART GIRLS (a great honor!).
On course yardage markers are posted at 100, 150 and 200 yards with some sprinkler heads measured to the center of the green, and Pro Link GPS is standard on all cart, providing hole diagrams and accurate measurements from tee to pin. The greens are small to medium in size, slightly raised and generally slope moderately from back to front. Our favorite hole is the long par four eighteenth, which features an approach to an island green complex (which acts as a double green for the Par 3 13th as well).
On property is a clubhouse with pro shop plus snack area serving hot & cold sandwiches. The practice facilities are comprehensive and include a targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker, and putting/chipping green. A respected player development program is a highlight of the teaching format at riverside.
The property is conveniently located with easy access from the DFW Airport, Six Flags, the Ballpark at Arlington and Texas Stadium. For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
