MANSFIELD NATIONAL GOLF CLUB (817-477-3366)
Texas Golf Course Review
Mansfield National (just off of 360 at Matlock in Mansfield) is a par 72, 18-hole championship course that features 419 Bermuda fairways and Tif Dwarf Bermuda putting surfaces. Designed on 225 acres of varied terrain, this John Colligan layout features golden sand bunkers that adorn the landing zones off the tee and greenside (26 in total), providing aesthetic beauty as well as challenge.
Conveniently located for visitors from Arlington, Fort worth or Dallas, this property also features a 4,000 square foot clubhouse with a fully stocked pro shop plus a snack area that seats 80 people indoors and another 24 on the outdoor patio (hot and cold sandwiches and beverages available). There is a grass range plus putting and chipping greens.
Three sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes that measure 6850 yards/128 slope, 6232 yards/119 slope and 5207 yards with a 116 slope from the forward tees. As these ratings indicate, this is a very player friendly design that can be enjoyed by golfers of all skill levels. Women will especially find this to be a rewarding golf experience.
On course yardages are posted at 100, 150 and 200 yards, and sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green on all par fours and fives. The pin placements rotate from front/middle back in order throughout the 18 holes on large, undulating putting surfaces.
Twenty six golden sand bunkers adorn the layout, near the landing zones off the tee or greenside, and water hazards come into play on 3 holes. The initial four holes resemble those of a links style design, and the back nice also play along a fairly open terrain. Holes 5 though 9 have a woodlands feel, with thickly forested trees lining one or both sides.
