LEGACY HILLS COURSE at Sun City (a Del Webb Community) 512-864-1222
Texas Golf Course Review
Overview
White Wing and Legacy Hills Golf Clubs in Georgetown, just north of Austin, are beautifully designed and meticulously cared for 18-hole championship courses that are part of the Del Webb Sun City Community. Opened for a limited amount of public play, these two courses provide members and guests with private country club conditions from tee to green, and with exquisite landscaping as well.
The two courses are located about 2 miles from one another, and each has its own clubhouse with pro shop and restaurant/lounge. Each property also has its own targeted grass range, putting greens and short game are with sand bunker. The Wild Wing property has the most extensive of the two practice facilities.
The layouts are well marked, with 100, 150 and 200 yard markers on the cart paths and 150 yard stakes positioned on each side of the fairways of all par fours and fives. Sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green, and color coded flags indicate front, middle and back pin placements. The Wild Wing course also has 100, 150 and 200 yard markers located in the center of the fairways.
LEGACY HILLS COURSE
The Legacy Hills course is the longer of the two layouts at Sun City, and features 4 sets of tees that play to distances and slopes measuring 7088 yards/131 slope, 6693 yards/125 slope, 6079 yards/117 slope for men and 124 for women, and 5436 yards with a slope of 107 for men and 115 for women hitting from the forward tees. As these ratings indicate, Legacy Hills is a fair test, yet is quite playable for all levels of golfers.
The terrain at Legacy Hills features gentle elevation changes, with few level holes. All fairways are tree-lined, but as is the case with its sister course (White Wing), there are sufficient landing zones off the tee. The greens are another story… approaches that miss the raised green complexes, will find grassy swales, bunkers and collection pockets which make up and down recoveries a formidable task. A good lob game will come in handy around these large, sloping putting surfaces.
Attention to detail is evident throughout this layout. The tee boxes are sculpted, the fairways are manicured and the greens are true rolling. The landscaping is also commendable - with the cascading stream alongside the 9th tee area creating one of the most aesthetically pleasing sections of the course. This is an interesting and beautiful layout - and one that we highly recommend. For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
