Texas Golf Course Review

Firewheel Golf Club - Lakes Course

General information

Firewheel Golf Club in Garland just north of Dallas is a 63-hole championship facility boasting fine conditioning, excellent service and interesting designs .The terrain on each of the layouts is quite rolling with gentle elevation changes and significant mounding along the tree lined fairways and greenside. Most of the mildly sloping green complexes are significantly raised and many are well protected by sand bunkers or grassy swales.

The Old Course and Lakes Course are serviced by the same clubhouse, which features a restaurant/lounge, pro shop, complete practice facilities including grass range, putting green and short game area with sand bunker. Both are 18-hole championship designs that feature Bermuda greens and fairways. The Bridges course is located just down the road and has three nine hole layouts with bent grass greens and great conditioning. A beautiful, modern clubhouse on property features locker rooms with showers for men and women, a nicely stocked pro shop, wonderfully appointed Branding Iron Restaurant/lounge, and complete practice facilities.

With 63 holes of golf and top notch facilities, it is no wonder that Firewheel is known as a premier location for outings and community events. The Jerry Andrews Pavilion can accommodate up to 500 guests and the conference Room at the Bridges can facilitate smaller groups. Both are ideally situated and provide outstanding views. The golf courses can handle groups of between 16 and 300 players, and the personal service of staff members is a highlight of any event at Firewheel.

Golfers will appreciate the Pro Link GPS that is standard on all carts, and each par four and five also has yardage blocks measured to the center of the green on the fairways at 100, 150 and 200 yards (250 on par fives). The Bridges also has sprinkler heads that marked - and these three nines also featured bent grass greens, while the Old and Lakes Courses have Bermuda turf from tee to green. LAKES COURSE

Firewheel Golf Club - Lakes Course

The Lakes Course at Firewheel is the toughest of the layouts on property, as it stretches to over 7100 yards with tree lined, rolling fairways and water carries on ten holes. There are 47 sand bunkers - many of them deep faced, and ponds or creeks come into play on 15 holes. These hazards are often contoured, and squeeze the landing zones on many of the manicured fairways. Miss the greens here and up and downs are tricky business, as sand and grass bunkers, mounds and slopes that run off the sides and backs will challenge the short game of all levels of players.

Golf at Firewheel is a great value, and you can't go wrong with any of the courses you choose - they are all good tracts. For more info, visit our page for the Lakes Course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
