Texas Golf Course Review

Avery Ranch Golf Club

Avery Ranch Golf Club in N E Austin is 7126 yard Andy Raugust championship design built on 226 acres in the spectacular Texas Hill Country. Recognized as Austins's premier daily fee public golf facility, the rolling terrain features panoramic vistas highlighted by limestone barancas and a 60-acre lake. The quick rolling Tif Eagle greens and 419 bermuda fairways provide some the best playing surfaces in Central Texas.

Avery Ranch Golf Club

In Fact, Avid Golfer Magazine rated Avery Ranch # 1 for best course conditions, best clubhouse, best dining area and best innovative design in the Austin region! The clubhouse features a nice pro shop and beautiful restaurant/lounge with outdoor patio - serving breakfast all day and lunch 7 days a week. Practice facilities include a spacious targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker, plus putting green.

Five sets of tee boxes are fairly evenly dispersed, providing golfers with opportunities to chose to play from distances and slopes measuring 7121 yards/133 slope, 6594 yards, 6229 yards/126 slope, 5724 yards/121 slope for men and 135 for women, and 4924 with a slope of 125 for ladies hitting from the forward tees. Sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green, and 100, 150 & 200 yard blocks are posted in the fairways of all par fours and fives. Color coded flags indicate the day's front, middle or back hole locations.

There are 60 soft sand bunkers located near the landing zones on the manicured fairways, or situated greenside. While tree lined, the fairways present ample room, and frequently slope from one side to the other or play up or downhill. The green complexes feature large undulating putting surfaces, often bordered by mounds, swales and sand traps - which will challenge the short game abilities of all levels of players.

Water comes into play in the form of ponds or creeks on 9 holes, with some of the hazards helping to create beautiful views and daunting carries off the tee. The 7th is especially spectacular - a dogleg left par four that plays from an elevated tee over a creek, with a memorable approach to a well bunkered green fronted by a rock retaining wall. Rock walls are an aesthetic feature on numerous holes either at the tee areas or greens. The 18th is a great finishing hole - a long par four featuring a tight approach with a river running behind and left and with rock walled cliff to the right.

Avery Ranch Golf Club

This is one beautiful golf course - with an extremely reasonable rate structure for a  facility of this stature. We highly recommend a round here - a "must play" if you are in the area! For more info, visit our page for the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
